When you invest in a high-quality Paint Protection Film (PPF) for your car, you’re shielding your vehicle’s factory paint from accidental damages, daily abuse, UV damage, and environmental wear. But to ensure your PPF performs as expected for years, proper maintenance is key.
At Motocraftz, we don’t just install top-grade American TPU films — we guide our customers on how to maintain PPF for maximum longevity, gloss, and protection. Here’s our expert-recommended guide for PPF care and maintenance:
Post-PPF Installation: Wait Before Washing
Once your PPF is installed:
• Wait 5–7 days before your first wash. The first wash should be performed by your detailer and installer
• Avoid parking under trees or dusty environments during this period.
• Don’t touch or wipe the surface with a cloth — let the film settle and cure properly.
Follow a Smart Washing Routine
Washing is essential — but how you wash makes all the difference.
✅ DO
✓ Rinse the car first with plain water to remove loose dust and debris.
✓ Use a mild pH-neutral shampoo diluted in water.
✓ Wash with a soft microfiber hand-mitt using the tight water & shampoo technique — minimal pressure, thorough coverage.
✓ Follow up with gentle water rinse and dry with clean microfiber towels.
✓ Wash the car 2–3 times a week at most to reduce unnecessary friction and wear.
❌ DON’T
✗ Avoid direct high-pressure water on panel edges or wherever film is tucked inside.
✗ Never use harsh detergents or hard water — they compromise the hydrophobic layer.
✗ Say no to automated brush washes — they can cause micro-abrasions and reduce gloss.
✗ Avoid temporary, low-quality waxing after the wash
Go for Periodic Professional Foam Washes
A high-quality foam wash every 7–15 days keeps your PPF fresh and clean without damaging its properties. Foam lifts off grime without abrasive rubbing, maintaining the hydrophobic and self-healing capabilities of your PPF. Avoid the high-pressure water exposure on the edges and ppf folds, which are concealed behind the panels (like Boot, Doors, Bonnet, etc.).
Keep That Gloss Alive — Long-Term Shine Care
To maintain that mirror-like finish:
✓ Apply a PPF-safe and suitable detailing spray once a month (to start after 2-3 months of the
✓ Do not polish or compound the film unless recommended or done by your detailer.
✓ Avoid leaving bird droppings, tree sap, bug splatter, paint or water spots for long — clean them gently at the earliest.
✓
Stay Away from These PPF Damaging Habits
✓ Avoid strong degreasers, engine cleaners, and chemical sprays on PPF.
✓ Don’t use abrasive pads or old towels — they dull the film over time.
✓ Never peel or tug the edges if you notice lifting — consult the installer immediately.
✓ In case water seeps inside the PPF (during wash) – don’t wait, contact your detailer.
